About
Calico was born in 2022 as an endeavor to preserve the natural beauty of plant life and capture the escence of East Coast springs and summers. Using native Pennsylvania flora, plant prints are immortalized onto fabric and able to be worn as wearable art. Natural fibers of silk, linen, cotton, and wool are exclusively used in an environmentally conscious way of creating garments and home textiles. All garments and textiles are sewn and dyed in small batches in-house.
Reliance on plant pigment and dyes has only shifted very recently in the modern era with the oncoming of synthetic dyes in the 19th century. Botanical color offer a more sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes and connect us with the richness of the natural world.
Care for botanically dyed textiles without worry. Natural dyes can be colorfast and “wear” beautifully over time. Wash on cold, tumble dry. Iron silks on a low heat.
